Gods Own Country

Gods own country

To be honest, I only went there for the fish. The yummy karimeen, appams..I could go on and on but I came back totally full and pleasantly surprised. When people rave about the beauty of those coconut trees lining the pristine coasts, they are not lying. Its gorgeous! From the spice basket of Munnar to the backwaters at Kumarakom, I just couldn't get enough.
Munnar was our first stop, and it was surprisingly cold. Hills after hills dotted with tea gardens and spice farms make for a refreshing drive indeed. The resort was in some far flung corner of the hills and had a mesmerizing view of the sunset.

The backwaters were next! It was my first time on a houseboat, and it was far better than could have ever imagined. A whole day spent lounging about the deck...its relaxing even thinking about it. We ended that day with full stomachs, totally rejuvenated and at least a 100 pictures.

Our final stop was Kovalam, near Trivandrum and I was floored. The beaches out there are definitely worth the visit. I could just stare at the waves for hours, the pristine blue color that turned green at the shore. And it lit up in the night dotted with all the fisherman's boats.
It was one of the most memorable trips I have had, and that's not only because MBA has not given me enough opportunities for vacations :p. I would really love to go back there and just be for a week or so. Taking in the beauty and the peacefulness. It truly is a place to relax and head back to life all fresh. Perfect for a year end vacation.
